During the summer months when the kids are out of school, there are countless forms of entertainment available. Some entertainment is educational, other gets you active, and some is pure fun. We live in a time where we can be easily ruled by our phones and other digital devices. Taking time out to read a book is a great form of entertainment that has numerous benefits. Reading takes you to another place and time, full of adventure and imagination. A book can teach valuable lessons and increase knowledge. There are many rewards to reading a book, here are just a few:

  • Mental Stimulation
  • Stress Relief
  • Education
  • Improves Concentration
  • Vocabulary Expansion

There isn’t a human (adult or child), who can’t benefit from reading. To incorporate reading into your summer schedule, host a playdate where an adult reads a book or two, then the kids can “play”. Or how about taking the kids to the park or beach, have a picnic and read a book? When you are setting off for the zoo, take a few minutes and read a book about the zoo. That will stimulate a conversation with your child and the zoo visit will become much more educational. Be sure to check out your local library, they might offer children story time, another great way to get your kids immersed into reading.
