Meet Array Home Organization- founded by local moms Marissa and Page. As home organization specialists, they create simple, functional systems that bring calm to busy homes and help moms feel more in control of their spaces. Read below to learn more about Marissa and Page and their mission to help moms turn everyday overwhelm into ease.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family! Where did you grow up? How did you start Array?
Page grew up in Baltimore County. She moved to DC/Virginia area for college and returned to Baltimore County after meeting her husband and working as a personal chef. After having her twin daughters, (who are almost 9!). Page wanted a more flexible job and started Array Home Organization in Baltimore County!
Marissa is from southern NJ! She went to Towson University and ended up meeting her husband who is from Baltimore County -She began her career as a Physical Therapist, and also realized quickly after having children she needed a more flexible career. She emailed Page one day @ Array Home Organization to see if they were hiring, and the rest is history!
What do you love about Baltimore County and what made you consider raising a family here?
We both agree that “It takes a village.” Having family close by is important to us both. We both love raising our kids in a neighborhood atmosphere where our kids can wander to neighbors’ homes for hours, and we never worry about them being taken care of. We love the sense of community we feel, and we can’t imagine living anywhere else!
What is your favorite thing to do locally as a family?
We both LOVE outdoor time with our families. Baltimore county is home to so many amazing outdoor trails and restaurants. Our favorites are Meadowood Park, Oregon Ride, NCR Trails, and Lake Roland . Our favorite go-to restaurants that are kid friendly are The Valley Inn, Sammys, Stonemill Bakery, and The Corner Pantry!
Tell us about Array Home Organization!
Array is a women owned small business! We truly just love helping people in all stages of life. Our name Array is helping clients understand we can help with an “array” of tasks, and every job we do is so unique. It is empowering to help people take control of their space and decrease the stress we feel when we are in a cluttered space. We have found over the years that families tend to need our help the most. We have the most SELFLESS moms living in Baltimore County, and most of the time they tell us they want to declutter their spaces not just for themselves, but for their children! I think as parents we can all agree a disorderly space is chaotic for everyone.
Be honest, do you have favorite spaces to organize?
Maybe… We both love to organize all spaces, but what we focus on in those spaces can vary. Page loves a perfectly color curated closet, while Marissa prefers sorting things into categories and purging items as possible. It helps having the team of the two of us so while one sorts and purges, the other can begin putting the remaining items into their places. We make a good team!
Where did your love for organization come from?
We both were the kids who loved organizing our rooms, rearranging furniture, and keeping things tidy as a child. We both realized after having kids, it is HARD WORK to keep an entire family organized. It is quite easy to keep your own stuff organized, but with partners and multiple children… well that changes the game. We knew we could help others by implementing the same systems we put in place in our own homes. We just love creating relationships with our clients, being able to relate, and help them create systems that change behaviors for their family and last a lifetime!
What advice can you give moms about keeping spaces organized?
Label everything! It helps everyone living in your home see where things belong and anyone who comes in to help too. Also, purge constantly! We do a monthly purge of the playroom (goodbye junk) and seasonal clothes edit for every family member. LESS IS MORE! Our biggest mom hack is having a bin in each child’s rooms (for donated or outgrown clothes), and one in the playroom for toys that have lost their magic. Our kids thrive on selling stuff to secondhand stores (Hi Once Upon A Child), and getting to pick out new things, or taking the money for a new experience we can enjoy together as a family!
How do you find a balance between being a mother and managing your business? Do you have any tips for other working mother?
This is by far one of the hardest parts of being a business owner and mothers. We are updating skylight calendars with clients’ consults and sessions while simultaneously remembering stuffie day at school. We both have multiple children, and spouses who travel frequently and put in long hours. We are both the default parent for sick days, school closures, and the need for just a day off. We feel so lucky that many of our clients are parents, whether they have little ones at home currently or they are now empty-nesters – they can relate. We have come to terms that our families come first, and the window of having small kids is small, relative to our working careers. We are so passionate about our jobs and what we do, but we also know that we have to be the best versions of ourselves to make our company successful. We also survive on coffee; you likely won’t see us enter your home without one 🙂
To the mamas who are running business and running households – our only advice is to continue to take care of yourself. We outsource where we can and relinquish control of tasks when we are able. As women, we want to be able to do it all, but it’s okay to take things off your plate and ask for help. It’s the only way you can get it all done. We all have the same amount of time in our days, but how we prioritize and use our time can look very different. Make sure you are spending time on the things that make you happy, so you can be the best version of yourself for your family AND your business!
We strive to support local businesses! What is your favorite place in the Baltimore County area to:
-
- Grab coffee: Aveley Farms
- Go on a date night: Milton Inn
- Get dinner with your family: Sammy’s Trattoria II
- Have fun as a family: Hiking @ Oregon Ridge
- Engage in self care: A facial with Stephanie at Haus of Hudson but we think shopping at Ruxton Mercantile counts as self care too
- Shop for your kids: We are all about second hand at Once Upon a Child
- Local charity: We love to donate clients high end clothes to Renewal Upscale Retail in Hunt Valley. All donations help support the mission of the Women’s Board of Johns Hopkins while also giving beautiful pieces and second life!
