Tell us a little bit about yourself personally!
I am a mom of four fabulous children, a proud wife, a passionate pediatric dentist and founder of Baltimore Pediatric Dentistry in Pikesville. I was raised in Baltimore with my 8 siblings and much of my childhood experiences shaped my passion for a career in pediatric dentistry. I am an art and music lover, exercise enthusiast, enjoy trying and experiencing new things but most of all, I love spending time with my family and friends. I feel so fortunate to now be raising my own family in this wonderful community.

What do you love about Baltimore County and what made you consider raising a family here?
The secret is, as a young adult, I dreamed about living elsewhere! But as I grew up (and matured☺) I was able to see how much Baltimore offers family life. Firstly, I truly love the community! We live among good people who care for each other and are dedicated to the community at large. The community is diverse and welcoming. We have access to excellent schools, and hospitals, and many other resources and services. Baltimore’s proximity to other larger cities is also a plus-it’s nice to raise a family in a quieter town and be able to enjoy the great amenities big cities have to offer. Pikesville is down to earth, low key and wholesome.

Why did you decide to become a pediatric dentist?
I pursued pediatric dentistry because it allowed me to be the best me and contribute to my community using my natural gifts and talents. Growing up, I was always surrounded by lots of children. I worked with children in a number of different capacities, including teaching and its where I feel the happiest. I love the academic rigor of dentistry. I love beauty and art. As a pediatric dentist, I combine these passions to make a positive lifelong impact in the life of a child. I love that I can help them establish healthy routines, overcome fears and believe in themselves! I consider it an honor and privilege to be entrusted with caring for children.

How do you find a balance between being a mother and a dentist? Do you have any tips for other working mothers?
Finding balance in all we do is a lifelong challenge. I don’t know if we ever will feel confident that we have found and mastered it! Life is always changing, requiring us to constantly adjust. Sometimes we feel pretty good about where we are and other times we feel desperate for something to give. I wake up every morning thankful with the resolve that I will try my best. I find it helpful to dedicate time regularly for self-care and to carve out a niche of time daily to focus, evaluate and redirect as needed.

How has motherhood impacted your profession as a pediatric dentist?
As a mother, I can relate to the joys and struggles of parenthood. I appreciate the art of balance and parenting, and the importance of meeting each child where they are. I am also fortunate to be raising a child with complex healthcare needs which has expanded me in so many ways. I see the divinity and great potential in every child, and in raising my children, I am focused on the pursuit of possible. Motherhood is humbling. My NorthStar is to treat every child as my own. I strive to meet each patient and family with compassion and understanding and to offer treatment options that meet their personal lifestyle and goals.
